Fakespot

Fakespot was a consumer-facing review authentication tool that used AI to grade the reliability of product reviews on major marketplaces; it was acquired by Mozilla in 2023 and shut down in July 2025 when Mozilla could not find a sustainable business model. Its closure eliminated a widely used independent layer of marketplace trust verification at a moment when AI-generated review fraud was accelerating.
