The ghost crab surfaces to a tide of TikTok Shop announcements, one Amazon marketing playbook, and a BoF headline that sounds like it wants to start a fight.

Ulta Turns Its Storefront Into a TikTok Shop Funnel, One Celebrity Fragrance at a Time

Glossy

Three Glossy stories dropped this week that are really one story: Ulta debuted Ice Spice's fragrance as its first TikTok Shop campaign, indie label Polite Society built its largest-ever affiliate push on the same platform, and Ulta is separately welcoming dupe-fragrance brand Oakcha into hundreds of doors. Read together: Ulta isn't launching a channel, it's rebuilding its entire go-to-market around whatever converts on a For You Page, celebrity or knockoff, doesn't matter. We wrote in May that TikTok Shop's beauty surge closes in the comment thread, not the video. Ulta just decided to stop watching from the sidelines and build the whole storefront there.

Target's Post-Ulta Beauty Aisle Is Now Also a Teenager's Business Plan

Glossy

New brands are flocking to Target's revamped beauty section, and in the same week a 16-year-old Alabama creator, Embreigh Courtlyn, turned her friend group into a $2.2 million Target launch. Two different desks at Target are converging on the same insight we clocked with Roller Rabbit: Target forecast the daughter and the whole household showed up. Now Target is skipping the forecasting step entirely and just handing the daughter a P&L.

Sephora Is Redesigning Loyalty Because the Points Currency Is Debased

Glossy

Sephora reworking its loyalty tiers lands the same week our own Bluemercury piece noted that "curation" is now the identical pitch from Sephora, Ulta, and Amazon Premium Beauty. Points programs are hitting the same wall as curation claims: when every competitor runs the same mechanic, the mechanic stops being a moat. A colleague has a piece up today making exactly this case about a different retailer's answer — turning the whole loyalty question into a game because the points stopped meaning anything. Sephora's version is subtler, but it's the same admission.

Prediction: Watch for a points-to-experience pivot to spread past beauty into fast fashion loyalty programs by year end.

Claire's Turns 866 Stores Into a Gen Alpha Roblox Pipeline

Glossy

Lana Rae's "Lana's Life" launch wires Claire's physical footprint directly into Roblox and fandom mechanics for a customer who was born after the iPhone. This is not a licensing deal, it's an infrastructure bet: the mall kiosk chain everyone wrote off is quietly the best-positioned retailer for a generation that treats a Roblox closet and a physical earring rack as the same shopping trip.

Boka's Amazon Playbook Is Just... Marketing. Turns Out That Still Works.

Glossy

481% year-over-year growth and the No. 1 spot in oral care on Amazon, and Boka's secret is described as a "tried-and-true beauty marketing playbook." No AI agent, no retail media stack, no algorithmic edge — just a decade-old brand doing the fundamentals better than its shelf-mates. File this next to every AI vendor deck that edited out the boring answer. Our FashionUnited essay coverage made the same point in May: culture and judgment aren't automatable, and apparently neither is knowing your customer.

Physicians Formula Time-Travels to 2016 and Brings Jaclyn Hill Along

Glossy

A Butter Bronzer anniversary campaign with two OG YouTube gurus is nostalgia marketing, plain and simple — and it's smart precisely because it isn't trying to be an AI story. Sometimes the move is remembering that your customer was 19 in 2016 and is 29 now with a job.

Meta's Fashion House Debut Ran on Kylie Jenner, Peggy Gou, and a Pile of Substack Writers

Glossy

Meta Glasses launched with a campaign styled like a fashion house debut, not a gadget drop. This is nonsense worth watching closely: a hardware company borrowing fashion's entire promotional grammar — celebrity faces, music-world credibility, culture writers — because it has decided AI wearables need to be desired, not explained. It's the OTB/Google Cloud logic in reverse: instead of fashion houses consolidating onto one AI vendor's stack (as we covered in May), here's the AI vendor dressing itself up as a fashion house.

Dove Bets Hundreds of Creators Can Be "Unmissable" at the World Cup Without Breaking Brand Safety

Glossy

Scale is the whole story here — hundreds of creators, one tournament, and the now-standard anxiety about AI-generated content muddying brand safety. It's the Refy problem inverted: we wrote about Refy skipping the approval round entirely to move fast with twelve creators. Dove is trying to keep the approval round intact at two orders of magnitude more creators. Something will get through unapproved. The only question is whether it's embarrassing or just off-brand.

"Online Shopping Could Be AI's Next Victim," Says the Publication That Keeps Covering AI Shopping Wins

Business of Fashion

The headline is doing a lot of work for a piece that's mostly about margin compression from AI-mediated discovery, not the death of online shopping. But the underlying anxiety is real, and it's the same one our own data desk keeps finding: shopping agents score 76% against a customer who doesn't exist, and retailers have shipped apps inside ChatGPT and Claude faster than anyone can benchmark them. If agentic checkout actually intermediates the retailer-shopper relationship the way BoF fears, it won't be a dramatic "AI's next victim" moment. It'll be margin leaking quietly into whichever agent controls the last click, which sounds a lot less dramatic and a lot more accurate.

Việt Nam's FashionUp Wants to Be the Missing Bridge Between Garment Factories and E-Commerce

VOH (vi)

A scoop from the Vietnamese trade press: FashionUp is pitching itself as connective tissue between manufacturers and e-commerce platforms — exactly the pipe problem we flagged when Hanoi booked $110 billion in export targets to cross-border pipes that don't exist yet. Small platform, right problem. Whether it's the right platform is a separate question nobody outside Vietnam is asking yet.

Amazon Sellers Now Move 5.5% of All UK Retail Sales

Ecommerce News Europe

5.5% of an entire national economy's retail sales, routed through third-party sellers on one platform's infrastructure. Context: Amazon just opened its supply-chain logistics network to outside sellers two days after extending a 3.5% surcharge to more of them. The toll booth gets more valuable every quarter regardless of who's driving through it.

The Knicks Finally Won Something. Fashion Wants In Before the Confetti Settles.

Glossy

A championship run is a merchandising calendar event now, not a sports one. Nothing wrong with that — just noting that "the playoffs are over" and "the opportunity is just beginning" describes basically every cultural moment retail touches these days. Sport, election, holiday, doesn't matter: the commerce layer starts the moment the attention does.

Back tomorrow, same tide, probably still complaining about the same TikTok Shop funnel.
